Sometimes as a journalist you ask questions you end up wishing you had never asked. You end up wondering how to find the right balance between telling readers the full story, and trying to avoid a causing panic.
This is one such story.
Lately Whiskey company have had several reports from citizens claiming to have seen Darkfallen San'layns in the city, as well as some reporting other types of Vampires. Saturday night the city guards arrested one such
"Vampyr" after several witnesses had come forward accusing said
"Vampyr" of attacking them - allegedly with the purpose of biting them and sucking their blood.
When the alleged assailant was spotted they asked Echo company for backup since this was no ordinary mugger and in unison they cornered the guy and brought him to City Hall.
Often this is where a good story ends. Bad guy is caught, witnesses recognize him, statements taken, off to the Stockades he goes. Done. But no, not this time.
Shortly after being brought to the City Hall where Whiskey Company is stationed, the
"Vampyr" a self proclaimed Lord of a place no one has heard of decides that our rules - the rules of a civilized society - does not apply to him. With what one can almost imagine was followed by a hollow villainous laugh - this Lord Henry Blackwood - vanished, leaving a little pool of blood behind him. Not only was and is this Lord Henry Blackwood wanted for assault and possibly attempted murder - but he also decided using blood magic - also called hemomancy by some - was the clever choice in that situation.

So, surrounded by guards, in the heart of the city, he vanished, it all happened so fast the guards - trained guards - had no time to react. And this brings us back to the initial question which is also the title of this article. Who protects us when the guards cannot?
Granted, the guards did arrest the guy, but the display outside the City Hall seems more like they only did so because he didn't bother vanishing sooner. What can we as a society - as a community - do when someone decides rules don't apply to them and that they can escape any and all consequences? How do we keep our homes and very lives safe when someone like him walks around free?
I don't have the answer, but here at the Lion's Roar we urge people to stay away from this guy. Luckily he is easy to recognize, tall as a tower, pale skin, red eyes, the whole cliché. Don't trust him, just get away if you see him, he brings nothing good.
There has been an influx of San'layns in Stormwind in recent weeks. Some sources tie this together with an overpopulation of them in Duskwood. I don't know the reasons, but if all San'layns are like this Lord Henry and our guards are powerless to stop someone so powerful he can do whatever he wants - then I worry that maybe there are questions most of us are better left not pondering, or we risk not being able to sleep at night.
